21st CENTURY COACHING

The 21st century labour market is in a permanent process of change. Digitalisation, globalisation and ecological transformation have their impact on new jobs that show a shift towards more autonomy, less routine, more information and communication technology (ICT), fewer physical tasks, and more social and intellectual tasks over the forecast period to 2030. Transformation and digitalisation are characterising the economy and labour market, which asks for a more flexible worker with skills focused on change, feedback and adaptation.

Linked to this is the development of future-proof skills, the 21st Century Skills form the basic skills package to meet the challenges of the working world, but it also needs ongoing updates. In general, the 21st century skills are well-known concept. However, it is not defined which of these competences are especially suitable for VET coaches. Our initial research shows that within VET, 21st century skills are not well developed in the context of work-based learning, in particular the implementation of these skills.

The quality criteria for a (training) company and the skills of the coach in that company are changing. The aim of 21st Century Coaching (21CC) Project is to prepare company coaches for their changed role in work-based learning from VET students.

The results of the project include:

  • Inventory and analysis of 21st century competences (personal, transversal, educational) for company coaches
  • Personal action plan (https://21cc-action.eu/), a methodological tool for corporate trainers, coaches to assess their own competencies and find solutions on how to develop them.
  • Toolbox for coaches
  • Multifunctional web-app
