“PROSVASI” (greek term for “ACCESS”) is an institution-level project that refers to the students of the University of West Attica and aims to support those among them who, for various reasons (students with special needs, students from sensitive social groups, students from low income families) cannot participate on an equal basis in the academic activities necessary in order to complete their studies and to graduate.
Impediments may be due to (1) physical, bodily impairment or injury (sight, hearing, mobility or other serious illness), (2) developmental / psychological disorders (learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, mental diseases), (3) social problems (sensitive social group), (4) economic problems (low income, unemployment) or combinations of the above causes.
The project is implemented mainly via services offered to the students and covers a spectrum of actions / social welfare interventions for their benefit. Specifically, it includes (a) Psychological support services, (b) Psychological counseling services, (c) Support services for students with special needs (accessible textbooks, accessible webpages and websites, support services for physically impaired students, library equipment, counseling professors, etc.), (d) Financial support for students from sensitive social groups or low incomes, connected to their study progress, and (e) Activities to inform, raise awareness and train the academic community in UNIWA on the correct methods and attitudes in order to communicate and cooperate with the students of the target group.
Projects of the same type have been funded through NSRF and are currently running in all greek Universities.
