The purpose of the project is to implement all the required actions and projects for the pilot implementation of the National Reforestation Plan and the upgrading of public forest nurseries. Specifically, the following actions are foreseen:
- Investigation for pilot afforestation and reforestation of parts of areas that have been destroyed after a fire or multiple fires where reforestation through natural regeneration was not possible or have been deforested or degraded and which will be indicated by the General Directorate of Forestry and Forestry and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Forestry Directorate.
- Implementation of the studies in the indicated areas for afforestation and reforestation. It is emphasized that the execution and completion of all forestry works of the Reforestation project includes tender procedures, selection of contractors, execution of preparatory works & measures, installation of planting material in the appropriate period of time, care, support and protection works of the reforested surfaces, maintenance and irrigation of the reforestations for a period of 2-3 years, replacement of losses & supplementary plantings, completion of the reforestation project.
- Studies for the modernization of Public forest nurseries by the Democritus University of Thrace (D.U.Th.)
- Investigation, recording of parameters to be monitored in a reforestation environment as well as finalization of a methodology for optimizing development.
- Investigation, Parameterization, Development and Operation of a Central Intelligent Information System (CIIS) for remote monitoring, control and optimization of the development of both public nurseries and reforestation by continuous measurement, collection and processing of the necessary physical and other parameters of the growth environment in each case, for an appropriate period of time, as will be developed by the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Dep of University of West Attica (UNIWA).
